Former President Donald Trump stopped in Chicago on Tuesday to talk to Bloomberg News about the upcoming election.

Trump spoke with Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait during an event sponsored by the Economic Club of Chicago on a variety of topics, particularly his economic policies, the country’s relations with its European allies and more.

The former president made a strong case for imposing tariffs on foreign-made goods, calling it his “favorite word.” He also pushed for significant changes to trade deals with China and a change in the way the U.S. handles sharing military resources with its NATO allies.

He also promised to reduce inflation, although economists have warned that his tariff-intensive measures could actually have the opposite effect if implemented.
