Where is the terror in Langley?

It’s officially spooky season and here are some local activities and haunted houses

What happens in the community during scary times? Here is a list of haunted houses, dances, library activities and fundraisers.

• Brinkworth Dungeon: The elaborate exhibit is back at 22260 48 Ave., but isn’t expected to open until Halloween night. The horror will last until around mid-November. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children ages six to 12 for the Scary Nights (actors scare guests on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays). Reserved Scare Night tickets for the time and date are $30 for adults and $20 for youth (e-transfer). Admission on Scary Nights is $20 for adults and $15 for youth. The nights without fear are Sunday to Wednesday. Non-perishable food donations are welcome and will go to the Gateway of Hope. • 20294 50 Ave. has an elaborate display for Halloween.

• The Little Spooky Village is located at 7240 210 St. The Haunted Maze is not suitable for little ones or the faint of heart. Enjoy a hot drink and a treat! Take a photo in the photo hut. Admission is free, but donations are welcome to support the Adopt a Family for Christmas programs.

Those with Halloween performances for the public to enjoy are asked to submit details to the Langley Advance Times at [email protected] as soon as possible to be included on this list. Be sure to include the full address, operating hours and dates, and any charity considerations. Photos are also welcome.

Here are some additional Halloween events.

The Langley Rugby Club Haunted House will take place on Friday 18th and 25th October and Saturday 19th and 26th October. Admission is a minimum donation of $2. Each room will have a different theme, including an insane asylum, a scary movie room, a spooky crawl space, a dungeon, a mystery room, a butcher shop and a doll/clown room. And when people leave the building there is a rugby graveyard. Opening hours are Fridays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. There are special, low-anxiety offers on Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There are stairs in the clubhouse for people with reduced mobility. The clubhouse is located at 21280 Crush Cres. and there will be a concession where you can purchase hot dogs, hamburgers and hot chocolate.

Scarecrow Display Case: Fort Langley National Historic Site features scarecrows made by staff and local community groups. The public is invited to vote on their favorites between October 12th and 31st. The results will be announced on November 1st. Visitors can visit the historic site at Fort Langley to view the exhibits. There are also photos on the site’s Facebook page. However, please note that likes are not the same as votes. Comment to vote. Be sure to include the display number.

Scarecrow Stroll Festival: The annual festival features performances by various people and groups at Art’s Nursery through Halloween. The kindergarten is located at 8940 192 St. There are food trucks and live music every weekend. The event raises funds for community groups. This year the funds will go to Inclusion Langley Society, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation, Surrey Food Bank and OWL (Orphaned Wildlife) Rehabilitation Society. Pumpkin Painting: Children ages five and up can paint mini pumpkins on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Murrayville Library, 22071 48 Ave. Children must register in advance, but the activity is free. Learn more at fvrl.bc.ca.

Spooky Slime Time: The Murrayville Library, 22071 48 Ave., is offering an activity for children ages five and up on Friday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to noon. Prior registration is required. Go to fvrl.bc.ca. Participants make slime that they get to take home. Organizers warn that things could get chaotic, so dress appropriately.

Halloween Dance: The Langley Elks #259 present Brandall with hits from the 50’s to 80’s on Saturday, October 26th at Aldergrove Legion, 26607 Fraser Hwy. Tickets are $25 each and are available from Vern, 604-217-6316 or [email protected]. Music begins at 7 p.m. and the evening includes a costume contest and snacks.

Halloween Howler: The Jubilee Community Club is hosting a dinner dance on Saturday, October 26 at Jubilee Hall, 7989 Bradner Rd. Tickets are $45 and are available in advance only through eventbrite.ca (search 1010672226837). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner buffet begins at 7:00 p.m. March Hare appears. Halloween Slime: Kids use science to make slime on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Langley City Library branch, 20399 Douglas Cres. Registration is not required. For more information, visit fvrl.bc.ca.

Halloween Storytime: No registration is required for the story session for young children at the Muriel Arnason Library, 20338 65 Ave., on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. For more information, visit fvrl.bc.ca. In addition to the story, the children make a Halloween craft.

Halloween stories and crafts: Brookswood Library, 20045 40 Ave., is offering a gentle Halloween stories and crafts session on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wearing costumes is encouraged; prior registration is not necessary. For more information, visit fvrl.bc.ca.
