Help cover Rust Belt unions in the 2024 elections

Support our mission

Raised $22,000 of the $50,000 goal

Payday is in the midst of an unprecedented fundraising effort. We raised almost $25,000 in just over a month.

Because we’re seeing high demand for the quality of our reporting, we’ve created this video to celebrate.

If we can raise another $10,000, the Illumine Service Foundation has pledged to donate another $10,000. So far we have achieved 20% of our goal.

We have already begun to have a significant impact on the national conversation. NPR’s This American life has asked me to serve as an editorial consultant for their coverage of unions in the 2024 elections.

The biggest problem is that Payday needs more staff to keep up with everything that’s happening here. There is a lot to cover, but we need to be able to pay staff to help us over the next 20 days.

Increasing our staff will allow us to produce more impactful reports that will hopefully generate enough of a buzz to attract more support from foundations and major donors. It will also likely have a big impact on the way things are reported in this race.

As a publication, we have often forced the mainstream media to cover the labor movement in ways they had not previously done.

The Washington Post mentioned us in a cover story for being the first trade union media to follow the strike wave during the pandemic. esquire called us “invaluable” The New York Times one publication called us “new energy,” And Filmmaker Boots Riley has repeatedly cited us as one of his inspirations.

Our work with CNN on Western Pennsylvania has already been nominated for an Emmy.

Now we’re hoping to make a big impact from Western Pennsylvania because there’s something big happening right now that will impact the entire country and we need your help to cover it.

Help us raise an additional $10,000 to support unions fighting back in the Rust Belt, especially here in my home of western Pennsylvania.

Thank you again for the support.

love and solidarity,

Milk
