Child attacked by dog ​​in Long Island home and flown to hospital

HICKSVILLE, N.Y — A child was flown to a Long Island hospital Tuesday after he and two adults were attacked by at least one dog.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a home on Lantern Road in Hicksville shortly before 12:30 p.m. for a report of a dog bite.

Two adults and an 11-year-old girl were bitten by a dog on Long Island

Neighbors told CBS News New York they heard screaming, then saw the 11-year-old girl who lives in the house, her 47-year-old mother and the 74-year-old homeowner come out of the house with serious injuries.

According to police, the two women suffered leg injuries and the child suffered facial injuries. Neighbors said the child appeared to have been badly bitten on the face and limbs.

“They held the child. The child was bleeding. The face was completely chewed up, her jaw, her teeth, her fingers, her leg, and then the mother was completely chewed up too,” said a neighbor.

According to sources, the child and his mother, who live upstairs, came through the gate to the backyard and startled the two dogs that belong to the homeowner.

According to sources, none of the victims’ injuries are life-threatening.

Rescue workers remove two dogs from Hicksville home after attack

CBS News New York cameras captured two dogs being carefully removed from the home by animal control and rescue workers who arrived with long sticks and protective gear. They could be seen on the roof of a backyard shed trying to secure the dogs.

The dogs are being held by the City of Oyster Bay until they can be evaluated.

Neighbor Vincent Barilla said he didn’t even know there were dogs in the house.

“I have lived here my whole life. I’ve never seen a dog there,” he said.
