Tragic death of a farmer in Annamayya district: Tuskers attack | Vijayawada News

Tirupati: A middle-aged farmer was trampled to death by a herd Tusks near Bandarlapalle village Piler mandal from Annamayya district on Tuesday morning.
According to some locals who witnessed the tragic incident, the deceased, identified as Raja Reddy, was on his way to his agricultural fields when he was surrounded by a herd of ten tuskers. One of the tuskers grabbed Raja Reddy With his trunk he threw him hard to the ground and trampled him to death. Carrying an umbrella, Raja Reddy did not notice the herd of elephants as it was raining heavily and visibility was poor.
Piler MLA Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy along with local police and forest department officials rushed to the site of the incident and recovered the body after managing to dislodge the tuskers. The body was handed over to the victim’s family. The MLA expressed his condolences and assured all possible support from the government.
He also accused the forest authorities of Tirupati, Chittoor and Annamayya districts of not taking coordinated measures to combat the elephant menace. “On Monday, the herd was spotted near Mangalampeta in Chittoor district. Locals with the help of forest officials evicted the tuskers from there after which they entered the area. But no one alerted the forest department personnel stationed here. Would there have been a warning?’ ‘A precious life could have been saved,’ he said.
The MLA spoke to the district collectors of Chittoor and Annamayya districts as well as forest department officials and assured the locals that the herd would be evicted to their natural habitat. The herd was last spotted near Kaklarampalli village.
