RCMP announces findings linking Indian government agents to criminal activity in Canada

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is “deeply” concerned about recent allegations of criminal activity in Canada linked to the Indian government.

On Monday (October 14), the RCMP announced findings from a national task force that included links between Indian government agents and murders and violence, as well as the use of organized crime to create a perception of an unsafe environment for the South Asian community in Canada.

The APD released a statement on Monday responding to the RCMP’s allegations.

“Not only are the lives of the victims or intended victims of these crimes disrupted, but the fear these crimes cause can also negatively impact the lives of friends, family, neighbors and communities, including the Abbotsford community,” APD said in the statement.

The APD says it has remained steadfast in its assessment and investigation of reported incidents of extortion and violence.

“We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners, including the RCMP, to hold accountable those who committed crimes in Abbotsford. AbbyPD remains open to engaging with key community stakeholders to listen and collaborate to combat violence and threats of violence in our community,” the statement said.

Both the RCMP and APD are asking the public for help in reporting incidents of foreign interference.

Anyone who feels threatened online or in person is asked to report the incident to local police and to call 9-1-1 if someone is in immediate danger.

The RCMP National Security Information Network is also an option at 1-800-420-5805.
