9-year-old martial arts student wins million from sexual abuse lawsuit

A judge has agreed to a $1 million settlement on behalf of a 9-year-old La Verne boy who claimed he was sexually abused by a fellow student at a Glendora martial arts studio summer camp in 2022.

The ruling Thursday by Pomona Superior Court Judge Bryant Y. Yang will award the boy about $525,500 after attorneys’ fees and other costs. The lawsuit states that the boy was seven years old when he was abused at Red Dragon summer camp on July 19, 2022.

The lawsuit, filed in August 2023, alleged that the boys were not adequately supervised. According to the lawsuit, the inappropriate interactions only stopped when an older child separated them and sat between the two.
