Police officer injures combative man after Bellmore accident: police

BELLMORE, N.Y. — A Bellmore man was arrested for assaulting officers after a car crash, police said.

Charles Klimovich, 63, was involved in a crash Monday afternoon near Bellmore Avenue and Merrick Road, police said.

When officers tried to get his information, he refused, became combative and tried to flee, authorities said.

When officers attempted to arrest Klimovich, he continued to resist and disobey their commands, police said. Officers used their Taser to subdue Klimovich and arrest him, police said.

One officer suffered injuries to his elbow and both knees. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said.

Kilmovich is charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
