Explorer Lucy Shepherd hosts the new series Secret Amazon: Into the Wild.

It follows Lucy and an Indigenous team as they embark on an unprecedented task Amazon Expedition.

On their journey they cross jungle areas and are exposed to extreme dangers.

Lucy spoke exclusively to The Sun Online about the loss of a mentor who inspired the expedition.

She shared: “It was a mammoth project and just a few months later my mentor Ian Craddock suddenly passed away.”

“And he was also a good friend of my team.

“It was like, well, is it even stupider to keep doing this, or should we do it in his name?”

“Then Anders, a good friend who was also his friend, came on board.

“It was like his first big project where he was on the sidelines organizing the supplies and stuff.

“And yes, it all came together like that. So it was a big, big project in the making.”

The journey of discovery has long been a passion for Lucy – since her childhood.

Lucy had previously applied and qualified to take part in a British Exploration Society expedition.

She joined a team of 10 for a 10-week Arctic expedition to Svalbard.

Meanwhile, that first expedition took place in 2011, when she was 18 years old.

Lucy Shepherd is a British explorer with over a decade of experience.

Her first expedition took place in 2011 when she was 18 years old. She had successfully applied and qualified for a ten-week Arctic expedition with the British Exploration Society.

As part of a team of 10, they traveled to Svalbard.

She recently undertook an unprecedented Amazon expedition accompanied by a team of four indigenous men.

On their journey, the group crossed jungle areas and was exposed to danger.

Writing for Metro.co.uk, she explained: “As a child, I was happiest outside.”

“My parents gave me a long leash with which I could roam the fields around the house. Adults often described me as ‘adventurous’ and I liked that.”

“It started to develop into my identity, but I never thought I could become a real explorer.”
