Center Line home invasion suspect who fired shots at police arrested

A domestic disturbance suspect who allegedly fired a gun at a Center Line police officer last weekend is expected to be arraigned Tuesday, officials said.

Center Line Public Safety Director Paul Myszenski said the suspect faces multiple charges, including assault with intent to murder.

Police said the charges stem from a home invasion that occurred around 12:20 p.m. Saturday in Center Line.

Officers were called to a home in the 7300 block of the state park at the corner of Landau Street near 10 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue to respond to a report of a burglary, authorities reported.

According to a preliminary investigation, an officer arrived and saw a woman leaving the side door of the home and running into the backyard. He jumped the fence to chase the woman but lost her as she rounded the corner of the garage, police said.

Meanwhile, according to investigators, a man armed with an AR-style pistol left the front door and ran to a gray car parked in the driveway.

A second police officer arrived as the suspect was backing out of the driveway and adjusted his vehicle to prevent him from continuing, authorities said.

Officials said the suspect’s vehicle struck the patrol car as it backed into a driveway across the street and continued south on Landau. The officer, who was chasing the woman on foot, jumped a fence and approached the suspect’s vehicle, police reported.

Investigators said the suspect pointed his gun at the officer, who then fired several shots into the vehicle. According to police, the suspect also shot at the officer.

The suspicious vehicle sped further south onto Landau and disappeared.

After several hours of intensive searching for the suspect, Center Line police arrested the suspect with the help of Warren police officers, officials said.

The incident is the latest in which a suspect has shot at police officers.

Last week, Detroit police fatally shot a man in his 30s on the city’s east side after he allegedly fired at officers who approached him.

In September, one or more suspects shot at Inkster police officers in response to a report of shots fired in the area of Klink Street. One of the shots narrowly missed an officer, officials said.

Also last month, a Farmington Hills man was arrested after barricading himself in his home and shooting at police officers.
