General Election Preview: 2024 General Election in Central New York

When is election day?

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Voters across New York can vote in person on that day. Polling stations open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m

How do I register to vote or check my registration status?

In New York, you can register to vote online through the state’s election website.

You can also fill out a paper registration form and return it to your county election office in person or by mail. These forms are available at libraries, post offices, or your local government office. A PDF is also available online.

The deadline to register to take part in this election is Saturday, October 26th.

What is early voting?

In New York, early voting begins Saturday, October 26th and ends Sunday, November 3rd.

If you choose to vote early, your polling location may be different than your election day. Fewer polling stations will be open during early voting.

You can also vote by mail in New York. You must request a mail-in ballot from the state elections board and return it before November 5th. If you send the ballot by mail, it must be postmarked by November 5th at the latest.

How and when will I find out who won?

Election results will be posted live on the NYS Board of Elections website.

Syracuse.com will post live results from local races as they come in, as well as updates from candidates’ events.

Due to the volume of mail-in ballots, the results of some elections may not be known until more than a week after Election Day.
