The German intelligence chief warns of a possible Russian attack on NATO by the end of the decade

A group of German intelligence officials has warned the Bundestag about Russia’s “aggressive actions” and warned that the conflict could spread to NATO member states.

Russia could “launch an attack” against NATO by the end of the decade, said the President of the German Federal Intelligence Service, Bruno Kahl, reports News.Az, citing Euronews.

Kahl made the remark at an annual hearing of the Bundestag’s control committee in Berlin, saying: “Whether we like it or not, we are in direct conflict with Russia.”

He said Russian President Vladimir Putin “declared himself an enemy a long time ago” and that “direct military conflict with NATO is becoming an option for Russia.”

Also present were the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, and the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD), Martina Rosenberg.

The three officials all spoke of a potential threat to NATO and Germany’s future, with Haldenwang saying that Russian activities “have reached a level in recent months that should be a wake-up call for everyone.”

He said his office had observed “aggressive actions” by Russian intelligence services and that espionage and “sabotage” had increased in scale and severity.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected the comments, telling reporters in Moscow that Russia had never moved “military infrastructure” toward NATO countries.

“To say that the Russian armed forces pose a danger is absolutely false, illogical and contradicts the entire course of history that has led to the confrontation that we are now all experiencing together,” he said.
