Google just leaked a tweak to one of the Pixel Watch’s most popular faces

Key insights

  • Google has announced an unpublished update to the Concentric watch face for the Pixel Watch 3 in a recent video.
  • This new layout offers four complications including Battery, Heart Rate, VO2 Max (not yet available) and Respiratory Rate.
  • Although the watch face hasn’t been officially released yet, it could hint at future updates for the Pixel Watch.

Aside from a new size option with a larger display, the Google Pixel Watch 3 series doesn’t bring many internal changes. However, it stands out for its dual-size offering, including a new 45mm model that offers significantly more screen space. To take advantage of this extra space, you need a premium watch face. Google, known for its eye-catching product presentations, recently showed off the Pixel Watch 3’s design in a video with an unreleased watch face centered around a sleek, minimalist layout.

Many options to choose from

The video highlights a concentric layout that isn’t yet available for the Pixel Watch 3 (via 9to5Google). Although this layout is not part of the Pixel Watch series, it closely resembles the Watch Face I-Dial. What sets it apart, however, is the unique ring of four complications positioned between the minutes and seconds. The design consists of a mix of different elements that give it a clean and structured look and make it easier to read thanks to its symmetrical appearance.

Two complications at the bottom display battery percentage and heart rate information. Interestingly, although VO2 Max (or cardio fitness score) is not currently available as a complication of the watch face, it takes center stage as a third complication. The fourth shows two waves next to a number, probably indicating the breathing rate. Currently, the smartwatch only measures breathing rate during nighttime checkups as part of its health metrics.

The concentric watch face breaks away from the typical cluttered designs, improving both the style and functionality of the Pixel Watch. By making information easier to access, it maintains a modern look while improving usability.

Hopefully Google will phase out this watch face update soon

While this optimized Concentric watch face hasn’t been officially released yet, the recent video gives a tantalizing glimpse of what Google’s premium smartwatches could have in store. It may just be a concept showcasing design ideas, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Google brings this sleek new layout to life in a future update to improve both the watch’s style and functionality.
