How to Create a Halloween Playlist to Scare Your Friends – The Daily Aztec

How to Create a Halloween Playlist to Scare Your Friends – The Daily Aztec

One of my favorite descriptions of a playlist comes from the 2020 reboot of High Fidelity: “Creating a playlist is a delicate art. It’s like writing a love letter, but better in a way.” In this case, we’re going to write a love letter on Halloween.

What makes a Halloween playlist “Halloween-worthy”? Should it scare you? Should it scare you? Or does it have to give you goosebumps? Honestly, the answer could be either of these two. Now the song selection for each playlist varies according to your taste. But the following is my ideal Halloween playlist, suitable for a Halloween party or your trick-or-treating soundtrack.

“Thriller” by Michael Jackson:

This is a classic song, and it’s no coincidence that it is associated with Halloween. From the lyrics that evoke the creatures that come out at night to “terrorize your neighborhood” to the allusions to something evil lurking in the dark – demons, darkness, blood and midnight – these are all the perfect ingredients for the classic Halloween recipe. Oh, and we haven’t mentioned the music video yet, in which Jackson starts the evening by watching a movie with his date, then turns into a werewolf, followed by a zombie, only to realize that it’s all the nightmare his date was. Simply put, this will set the mood for Halloween night.

“Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.:

Who else are you going to call on the scariest night of all? Ghostbusters, that’s who! Let the music inspire you: ghosts and Halloween go hand in hand. You can’t mention one without mentioning the other. So put on your proton backpack, wear your official Ghostbusters costume, and blast this song while you go ghost hunting…I mean trick-or-treating.

“Season Of The Witch” by Donovan:

This is the time to cool down and take a break from trick-or-treating. Play this song and relax to the sound of a late 1960s classic. But be careful – don’t be discouraged, otherwise the dark atmosphere suggested by the lyrics will be scarier than Halloween.

Rockwell & Michael Jackson’s “Somebody’s Watching Me”:

From the super catchy synthesizer that sets a spooky mood to the haunting lyrics, this song evokes an eerie nature, especially when you’re surrounded by heroes, celebrities, or clowns all night long.

“Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Boingo:

“Going to a party when no one is alive.” This is only possible on Halloween, when our costumes slowly come to life to welcome and enjoy the one-night festivities that await us.

“The Killing Moon” by Echo & The Bunnymen:

This song talks about something bad that will inevitably happen. With phrases like “fate,” “the deadly moon will come too soon,” and “the deadly time,” the lyrics are difficult to interpret, making them very mysterious. That kind of sounds like the key ingredients to your favorite Halloween slasher, right?

Of course, everyone’s playlists and song selections vary depending on their musical tastes. There were a lot of songs that I left out, but to be honest if I added more songs the playlist would never end. However, I would play this to get the haunting mood going.
