Cleveland Guardians betting preview

Cleveland had a tough division series against a gritty Detroit Tigers team and it took all five games to emerge a winner. The Guardians won the last two games 5:4 and 7:3. In Monday’s ALCS opener against the Yankees, Cleveland gave up three runs in the third and lost 5-2. Alex Cobb gave up three hits in 2.2 innings with five hits and three walks to start.

The Guardians are sending Tanner Bibee to start Game 2. This year, Bibee went 12-8 with a 3.47 ERA in 31 starts. Bibee has made two postseason starts in his career and posted a 2.08 ERA with no decisions.

New York Yankees betting preview

On the Yankees’ side, they split their two home games against the Kansas City Royals in the Division Series 6-5 (win) and 4-2 (loss), but won both away games 3-2 and 3-1 to advance. In Monday’s matchup, New York got a solo home run and two runs scored by Giancarlo Stanton. Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was great in 6.0 innings, going one for three hits and nine Ks.

The Yankees will rely on ace Gerrit Cole as their starting pitcher in Game 2. In 2024, Cole was 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 starts. Over his playoff career, Cole is 11-6 with a 2.94 ERA in 19 starts.

Cleveland Guardians vs New York Yankees Prediction

I’ll probably just stick with New York. Cole didn’t have the most balanced season this year, giving up three deserved hits in 5.0 innings in Game 1 of the Division Series. However, Cole returned to pitch the decisive Game 4 on Thursday and logged 7.0 innings, one of which was earned on six hits. As for Bibee, he has given up two earned works over 8.2 innings in his two postseason outings this year. While the two starters are out there, we should have a pretty quiet display.

The Yankees didn’t have a very dynamic offensive night on Monday; Juan Soto had two of the team’s six goals. Key to the win were Cleveland’s seven walks and wild pitches, both of which led to a few runs. I’d like to see New York’s bats get a little better going here, but they should be in good shape behind Cole.
