A teenage pop fan who was disappointed when a long-awaited meeting with his idol fell through at the last minute has been given a second chance.

Lilly, 14, from Warwickshire, had tickets to see American singer Melanie Martinez perform in Cardiff last month and had hoped to meet her idol afterwards.

Her mother, for whom she organized the meeting with Lilly, said the disappointment “really blew her daughter away.”

But management from Martinez – whose songs include “Teacher’s Pet” and “Play Date” – has now offered Lilly a new meet and greet as well as VIP merchandise.

Lilly has been a huge fan of the singer for years and collects all of her merchandise

The charity Emmett’s Genies, which supports families of children with critical or life-limiting illnesses, gifted Lilly some Melanie Martinez items last year.

Emmett’s geniuses had been working with Lilly’s brother George, who suffers from congenital heart disease.

The 10-year-old wanted to fulfill his sister’s dream, Emmett’s Genies said, and the charity tried to give her a VIP experience.

“I bought Lilly [some] Melanie Martinez merchandise at full price and that was her gift. “Unfortunately I was unable to facilitate a larger experience,” said a spokeswoman for the small charity.

After purchasing tickets to the Cardiff gig, Rachel said she organized the meeting with the singer’s manager through a contact who had previously had a successful meeting.

At the performance, Lilly was given four merchandise items by the star’s manager.

But the singer unexpectedly appeared on stage 10 minutes early and the manager never came back, Lilly’s mother said.

Lilly, who struggles with anxiety, is currently being homeschooled after being bullied.

Rachel said of the canceled meeting: “It was terrible because she was standing there waiting and fully expecting it.”

Lilly had been looking forward to meeting someone she had looked up to for years, she said, and the disappointment made her even more worried that things wouldn’t work out the way she wanted.

After writing to Martinez’s manager, Rachel was promised a new meeting the next time the singer is in the UK.

She will also receive some new VIP merchandise.

The new offer of getting to know each other “helped Lilly enormously,” said Rachel.

“It especially helped her understand that this time it was a little mishap,” she said.

“She’s a big fan. She collects everything Melanie comes out with,” Rachel said.

The singer herself was bullied for having a gap between her front teeth, and some of her lyrics really resonate with Lilly, she added.

“In a way, it comforts her to know that even though Melanie has been bullied and put down, there is a sort of ‘look at her now,'” Rachel said.

Despite the experience, she said Lilly is still a big fan.
