Austrian travels to Grand Island for dog show

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The Australian Shepherd Club of America’s 2024 Dog Specialty Show kicked off day four on Monday.

The show will be a week-long event in Grand Island at Fonner Park. Dog show participants traveled around the world to compete in this year’s competition. There will be multiple categories throughout the event in which Australian Shepherds and their partners will demonstrate their skills in conformation, tracking, agility and other categories in hopes of qualifying for first place.

Chris Prein, who traveled from Austria to show his dog in the agility competition, said the event in America brings a lot of chaos compared to Europe, but is a lot of fun.

“Being around all these crazy people and having fun with all the dogs of the same breed, and everyone here just loves the dogs,” Prein said. “And it’s just fun to watch them compete with their partners, and my daughter competes here too. You know, I’m very proud of it.”

Prein said this was his first time in Nebraska, but he is no stranger to dog show competitions with over 12 years of experience.

Prein said he was especially looking forward to his daughter competing in America with her three Australian Shepherds.
