Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident at 5th Ave W and Harbor Drive

One person was injured and traffic was rerouted following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 5th Avenue W and Harbor Drive near the Duluth depot on Monday afternoon, October 14th. Multiple Duluth Police departments and a Duluth fire truck were on scene.

The accident was resolved shortly after 5 p.m

According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, a Ford Focus was eastbound on 5th Avenue W when it entered the interchange with the interchange ramps of southbound Interstate 35. The Ford Focus had a green light when a Dodge Grand Caravan entered the intersection from Interstate 35 with a red light. The caravan then crashed into the driver’s door of the Focus.

The driver of the Focus was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident report also states that the 66-year-old driver of the caravan may have been under the influence of alcohol.
