Forest Lake couple killed in dump truck accident in Carver County

A Forest Lake couple died in a dump truck accident last week.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded to an accident at the intersection of County Road 53 and County Road 50 in Benton Township just before noon last Friday.

A Toyota Corolla sedan driven by 75-year-old Richard Hahn of Forest Lake was traveling westbound on County Road 50 at the intersection of County Road 53.

Officials noted that this intersection is controlled by stop signs for east and west traffic, while there is no stop control for north and south traffic.

The sedan stopped at the stop sign and headed toward the intersection before stopping again and attempting to cross the intersection when a northbound dump truck struck it on the driver’s side.

Hahn suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 75-year-old Jeanette Hahn, a passenger in the car, suffered serious injuries and was transported to HCMC, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, a 32-year-old man from Arlington, Minnesota, was not injured in the accident. According to reports, all occupants involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts.

The crash is still under investigation.
