This drag queen’s speech is a powerful reminder for all sexually active queer men

A drag performer was praised for her response at a drag competition last week.

NYC sensation Sabel Scities attended the annual Miss Hell’s Kitchen pageant at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on October 6th. The charity event raises money for the fight against HIV/AIDS. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event went to The Center in NYC.

During part of the event, Scities was asked about the number of people who have HIV but are undiagnosed. What advice would she give about this?

“As someone who has worked professionally in HIV prevention, harm reduction and testing for the last five years, I would tell people: You lock your door every night and sometimes you lock it.

“A condom is not always enough. PrEP is always not enough. And you never really know what’s inside your body.”

Scities encouraged people to go with friends if they didn’t want to go alone.

“Get your girls together the same way you do at happy hour. Get tested together. It’s free, fast and confidential. And you can take care of it today.

“If you’re f*cking around, figure it out.”

Many applauded the message, “If you’re f*cking around, figure it out.”

“Put it on a T-shirt,” he said Drag Race Finalist Rosé.

“That was better than any pompous answer I’ve ever heard,” someone else said.

Undiagnosed HIV in the United States

There are approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States. The CDC estimates that around 13% of them (around 160,000) do not know their status.

It is much better to find out your HIV status soon after infection than to find out later when the infection begins to harm your body. You can quickly take advantage of taking medication to become undetectable and expect a normal or near-normal life expectancy.

When used correctly, condoms are a highly effective prevention against HIV infection. PrEP is also highly effective. However, condoms don’t always protect against other infections, so it’s always good to get a full STI check-up.

Some men are still reluctant to go to an STI clinic if they don’t have symptoms. Others believe that they don’t have to do this because they are in a monogamous relationship. If you are sexually active, experts recommend getting an STI check at least annually, or every three months if you have multiple partners.

Sable Scities Victory and Background

After wowing audiences with her looks, talent and intelligence, we are pleased to report that Sable Scities has won this year’s Miss Hell’s Kitchen pageant. You can watch the moment of the announcement below.

“The win felt like a sign that it was time for me to get back to work,” Scities said Queerty. “I took the year off to work on my mental health and sort out my priorities. I told myself that if I won, I would get back on the horse and devote myself to the game.”

Scities was surprised that her comment about testing was well received online.

“I didn’t think the answer would be so well received. “F*ck Around, Find Out” is something I said every week at my shows when our local clinic showed up to distribute Narcan/Naloxone and schedule people for testing.

“The stigma around sexual health can still be so outdated and for some reason slut-shaming is still real in our community. I thought if I started convincing groups of friends who drink and go to these parties together, they wouldn’t have to be afraid to go alone. At this point, almost everything is curable or treatable…with PrEP, Doxy, HIV treatments (like Cabenuva) and testing so available, I want to encourage everyone who is active to take care of themselves and each other.”
