‘Outlander’ fan ‘sick’ over character’s tragic storyline | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

An ardent Outlander fan has passionately defended Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitriona Balfe) original husband, Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), since the beginning of the acclaimed Starz saga.

Frank, the descendant of the nefarious Black Jack Randall (also Menzies), is married to the displaced nurse from World War II and sees his wife accidentally travel back to the 18th century, leaving her life with him in turmoil.

Although Claire eventually falls head over heels for strapped Scotsman Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), she returns to her previous timeline for two decades until Frank dies in a car accident, paving the way for her to return to the past.

Frank’s unhappiness had reached its peak and a divorce was imminent before he met his untimely fate, but one fan has openly expressed his deep sympathy for his story.

“Is anyone else really worried about Frank?” asked one fan on Reddit, adding, “Every time I rewatch seasons 1 and 2 I feel really bad for the man.”

While Claire’s romance with Jamie has captivated audiences around the world, this viewer confessed that he initially hoped against hope that Claire would find her way back to Frank during her journey in season one.

“When I first watched Outlander in general, it basically took me until the end of the first season to get over the fact that Claire wasn’t going to come back to him and set her up with Jaime,” they revealed.

Her comments sparked a heated discussion in the comments section, with numerous fans expressing amazement that anyone could support Frank watching Outlander.

One confused comment read: “WHAT. It took you until the end of the first season to ship her off with Jamie????”

“I shipped them with Jamie from episode one [laughing emoji] And from then on I thought: Honestly, who? Lol.”

Another fan strongly disagreed: “Absolutely not. “He’s a passive-aggressive, condescending idiot who lied to Claire about Jamie’s survival, didn’t tell her that Bree (Sophie Skelton) was in danger, and deliberately embarrassed her in front of her colleagues at her graduation party.” He did did his best to alienate Bree from her and tried to take her to England, away from her.

Someone else agreed: “Agreed. I hate Frank. He lies, he’s racist, he’s sexist, he cheats pretty constantly, and when Claire comes back traumatized and in bad shape, he won’t let her leave him, even though she wants to leave.”

Other viewers recommended reading the original book series by Diana Gabaldon to learn more about Frank’s character – a great way to satisfy your Outlander cravings before the new episodes air.

The second part of the seventh season of Outlander premieres on Friday November 22nd on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
