Fairbanks Police Report Child Murder in Downtown; Investigations are ongoing

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – The Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) responded to a homicide of a child around 10 a.m. Monday morning

According to a news release from FPD, they responded to a 911 call from a resident of an apartment on 10th Avenue who reported a child had been injured. When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they found the deceased boy inside the apartment. The victim was later identified as 5-year-old Robert J. Sarten.

The press release states that based on the boy’s injuries it is clear that he was the victim of a homicide.

FPD reported that they made contact with the caller, who was the only person with the victim when they arrived.

“There is nothing more heartbreaking than the senseless death of an innocent child,” said FPD Chief Ron Dupee. “We are incredibly saddened by what this poor child has been through and will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrator to justice. “This case is now a top priority.”

The investigation is ongoing and the FPD said it does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

FPD directs anyone with additional information about this case to contact Detective Robert Hall at [email protected] or 907-450-6500.
