Man found with fatal stab wounds in East Orange apartment: prosecutors

EAST ORANGE, NJ – A fatal knife attack occurred in East Orange over the weekend, authorities announced Monday.

According to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the East Orange Police Department, East Orange police responded to a residence in the 500 block of Main Street at 11:29 a.m. Sunday and found an unresponsive male victim with stab wounds.

The victim – later identified as William Gilliam, 51 of East Orange – was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:01 p.m

The District Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit, which includes investigators from the East Orange Police Department, is investigating Gilliam’s death. Authorities said anyone with information can call the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office hotline at 877-847-7432.

No further information was available, authorities said.
