The ORED petition seeks to force a vote on an ordinance approving the Norman entertainment district

Oklahomans for Responsible Economic Development (ORED) is conducting a 30-day petition drive to force a citywide vote on the ordinance approving the Rock Creek Entertainment District.

The Norman City Council passed the ordinance Sept. 17 by a 5-4 vote that created a tax increment financing (TIF) district and mandates a debt obligation of up to $600 million.

ORED said Norman residents objected to approving the ordinance, avoiding a citywide vote on the debt commitment.

The petition has 30 days to collect 6,098 signatures to force a citywide vote.

The results will be announced on October 17th at 11:30 am

If the threshold is met, the vote will take place on February 11, 2025, the same day that the Norman mayoral and odd-numbered city council district seats will be voted on.
