Man shot while trying to force his way into woman’s car in Pomano Beach: BSO

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives say a man was fatally shot after he tried to force his way into a car carrying a mother and her children at a Pompano Beach gas station Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff’s Office deputies and paramedics from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived at the RaceTrac gas station at 599 Altantic Blvd. around 5 p.m. and found 37-year-old Brian Semil injured from a gunshot. He was taken to Broward Health North, where he died, said Miranda Grossman, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said their preliminary investigation revealed that Semil tried to force his way into the woman’s car and three men intervened. During the struggle, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Semil, Grossman said.

According to the sheriff’s office, all three men and other witnesses remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.

Police have not yet released the name of the man who fired his weapon.

Investigators will submit their findings to the Broward County Prosecutor’s Office for review once their investigation is complete, Grossman said.
