New Child Development Center Opens Doors at Fresno City College – The Rampage Online

The grand opening of Fresno City College’s new $16.8 million Child Development Center took place on October 11, 2024.

Interim President Kim E. Armstrong opened the ceremony by addressing attendees and thanking faculty and other professionals for their work and commitment. State Center Community College District Chancellor Carole Goldsmith acknowledged that the $16.8 million construction would not have been possible without the help of Proposition 51.

A tour of the Child Development Center shows the commercial kitchen, which provides meals for children, and has observation rooms where students can monitor classroom activities.

The ground floor of the building contains the kitchen, classrooms and observation rooms. According to the FCC website, faculty offices, classrooms, break rooms and conference rooms are located on the second floor.

“The new Child Development Center is a commitment by Fresno City College and the State Center Community College District to invest in our future,” Armstrong said.

The children are offered an environment for learning and support, while future teachers are also trained.

“The Fresno City College community, along with State Center Community College, is here to ensure we provide access to quality education to all of our students, regardless of their background,” she said.

Karina Guzman, a child development specialist, said the center lays the foundation for education and learning.

“It’s a very large learning environment. It’s a community effort that’s really just to educate them and prepare them to go to a new school or kindergarten,” Guzman said.

According to Guzman, there is currently only one toddler class, with another coming soon. There are also four preschool classes for children aged three to five.
