Despite Sunday’s big win, the Chargers had to get their victory without the help of head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh experienced a horrific medical scare as he was dragged into the blue medical tent, then was immediately taken out and headed to the locker room.

Fans and viewers were confused about what happened, and Harbaugh was listed as questionable to return with an illness. After the game, the man himself announced that he was suffering from atrial flutter. This type of cardiac arrhythmia causes the heart to pump too quickly.

Harbaugh announced that doctors determined he was fine and the head coach was able to rejoin his team to give the victory speech in the locker room.

Now Harbaugh has revealed that he will have to wear a heart monitor for the next two weeks.

According to Chargers beat writer Daniel Popper, Harbaugh revealed that he will have to wear a heart monitor for the next two weeks. After two weeks, he will be assessed again.

The Chargers head coach could also undergo surgery to correct the heart defect. In typical Harbaugh fashion, he also joked about the situation.

“It would give me cardiac arrest not to be out there on the sideline,” Harbaugh told reporters.

The good news is that it sounds like the medical scare can be monitored and corrected without Harbaugh missing time with the team.

When Harbaugh left the game and was examined by doctors, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter stepped in as interim coach. The Chargers got a big win on the road despite Harbaugh not being on the sideline.

Harbaugh also revealed that his atrial flutter also occurred once while he was coaching the San Francisco 49ers. He coached the team in 2011 and 2014, meaning he hasn’t experienced such an episode in around ten years.

After the medical scare, Harbaugh appears to be doing quite well, although he will be monitored for the next two weeks. The hope is that he won’t have to undergo surgery to fix his heart problem. If that is the only option and he is out for an extended period of time, Minter could be hired as interim head coach through the 2024 season.
