Man involved in Pearl vehicle crash dies after heart attack

PEARL, Miss. (WLBT) – A man died after a car accident in Pearl on October 10th.

According to Pearl police, the incident occurred in the 2300 block of Highway 468 around 11:17 p.m.

A news release said the first officer to arrive on the scene observed a man fleeing the accident and running toward his patrol vehicle on Highway 468.

According to the news release, the officer then ordered the man to get on the ground and he obeyed.

When additional officers arrived at the scene, they found the wrecked car about 100 meters from the man.

There they found a woman with severe head trauma.

Officers requested additional medical services and began caring for the victims.

According to authorities, the man suffered cardiac arrest and medical personnel began resuscitation.

The man and woman were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.

According to the news release, the man died at UMMC.

The Pearl Police Department also released a statement regarding the incident to refute reports on social media that claimed officers knelt on the man’s neck.

This incident was reviewed by [the] administration, and these claims are completely fabricated. The entire incident was captured on body and dashboard cameras. The people responsible for these outlandish claims should be ashamed of their tragic deaths [and] perpetrating a horrific scene and exploiting it to cause irreparable damage to the relationship between the community and the police. Thank you to the many responsible and reputable news sources who contacted the Pearl Police Department to verify the accuracy of this information before publishing fictitious claims.

According to PPD, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
