Watch the rare comet over Laredo this week

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Residents will have a rare opportunity to witness a celestial event this October. It’s a rare sight that may have even fascinated Neanderthals 80,000 years ago.

The newly discovered comet C/2023 A3, also known as Tsuchinshan ATLAS, makes its closest approach to Earth at about 71 million kilometers away. The comet, which originated in the distant Oort Cloud, began appearing on October 11th and will remain visible until October 21st.

The comet won’t be visible from Earth again for another 80,000 years, so don’t miss your chance to see it before it disappears. If you’re in Laredo, the best viewing time is about 45 minutes after sunset, around 7:15 p.m

This is a free, natural show you don’t want to miss!
