Scottsdale man found dead in nature preserve; The police reveal his identity

A 57-year-old Scottsdale man was found dead inside McDowell Sonoran Preserve on Friday, October 11th.

Family members called police around 5:30 p.m. and reported Howard E. Lentz missing after he failed to return home from a mountain bike ride. His body was found around 9 p.m.

“The man’s body was located off trail by searchers deep into the preserve using drones, cell phone data and an MCSO air unit. Scottsdale Fire assisted in transporting investigators to the scene and recovering the man’s body off the trail.” Scottsdale police said.

Scottsdale Police Park Rangers, a mounted unit, a street crimes unit and other teams responded to locate Lentz.

“Initial information suggests that this death was related to a medical event or a mountain bike accident. Ultimately, the medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death,” police said.
