2024 Week 7 College Football Playoff Prediction with 12 Teams

2024 Week 7 College Football Playoff Prediction with 12 Teams

While the Texas Tech football team had a week off on Saturday, the college football schedule delivered a series of knockout games. With several major programs taking place in Week 7, the landscape of the sport and our college football predictions changed dramatically.

With a 32-31 win over No. 2 Ohio State (which previously exceeded our playoff prediction), Oregon moves into first place this week. This is the first time the Ducks have been at the top of our forecast this year. Now it seems like they should be expected to top the table in the regular season as there are currently no teams in the top 20 on the schedule.

With that said, let’s take a look at our forecast for week seven.

Looking at this week’s playoff field, there are no teams dropped out of the 12-team bracket. However, some have moved positions. Ohio State’s loss to Oregon dropped the Buckeyes to No. 6, making them the second team not to earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Alabama got past Miami as the Crimson Tide picked up another SEC win. Although it was an unimpressive 27-25 home win against unranked South Carolina, the win was another key data point in Alabama’s favor. What’s more, Miami can’t say it’s behind a team that has survived the scares of being an underdog, considering its last two victories came largely through controversial decisions that resulted in victories by one point over unranked ones Teams led.

Also of interest at Penn State. Their OT win at USC keeps them at No. 5 in the projection, meaning they would be the top-ranked team to play in the first round. However, if Oregon makes a mistake, the Nittany Lions could become the favorite to win the Big Ten.

This week brings some interesting matchups for the teams in our forecast. Miami has to travel to Louisville, Alabama to Tennessee and Georgia to Texas. So it should be another exciting week when it comes to projecting the playoff field.
