Canadian police accuse Indian government agents of being involved in spreading criminal activity

Ottawa [Canada]October 14: Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commissioner Mike Duheme claimed on Monday (local time) that they had information about certain criminal activities by Indian government agents.

“In recent years and more recently, law enforcement authorities in Canada have successfully investigated and charged a significant number of individuals for their direct involvement in murders, extortions and other criminal violence. In addition, there were well over a dozen “credible imminent threats to life that resulted in law enforcement failing in their duty to warn members of the South Asian community and particularly members of the pro-Khalistan movement,” the RCMP said. Commissioner.

He said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has assembled a multi-disciplinary team to investigate and coordinate efforts to combat this threat.

“In February 2024, the RCMP assembled a multi-disciplinary team to investigate and coordinate efforts to combat this threat. The team subsequently obtained a significant amount of information about the scale and depth of criminal activity orchestrated by agents of the Government of India.” Threats to the security of Canadians and people living in Canada. Despite the actions of law enforcement, the damage continued and posed a serious threat to our public safety. We had reached a point where it was imperative that we engage with the Government of India to inform the public of some very serious findings, that have come to light through our investigations,” he said.

Duheme claimed that there is an extremist threat in Canada that is affecting Canada and India’s ability to work together.

He said: “There is a violent extremist threat in Canada that Canada and India have been working on for years. However, these threats impact Canada and India’s ability to work together. Earlier this week, the RCMP’s Assistant Commissioner of Federal Police made an attempt to meet with Indian law enforcement counterparts to discuss violent extremist events in Canada and India and evidence of the involvement of Indian government agents in serious criminal activity presented here in Canada. Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful “The commissioner met Indian government officials as well as the National Security and Intelligence Adviser and the Deputy Secretary of State at the weekend,” he said.

The RCMP also claimed that investigations revealed that Indian diplomats and consular officials based in Canada were using their official positions for clandestine activities, such as gathering intelligence for the Indian government, either directly or through their proxies; and other individuals who acted voluntarily or under duress, the statement said.

This evidence, police said, was presented directly to Indian government officials urging them to cooperate in curbing the violence and calling on our law enforcement agencies to work together to address these issues.

Earlier in the day, New Delhi had “strongly” rejected a diplomatic communication from Canada that said the Indian high commissioner and other diplomats were “persons of interest” in an investigation, calling it “absurd insinuations” and part of politics Agenda of the country Justin Trudeau government.

In a strong statement, India said Prime Minister Trudeau’s hostility towards India has long been evident and that his government has deliberately given space to violent extremists and terrorists to “harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.”
