Police identify young man who died in tragic accident on Thursday – first state update

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday near Georgetown, leaving one man dead.

Officials said that on October 10, 2024, at approximately 2:33 p.m., a Peterbilt 567 roll-off container truck was traveling westbound on Hardscrabble Road approaching Landfill Lane. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was traveling east on Hardscrabble Road approaching Landfill Lane.

Officials said the preliminary investigation revealed the Peterbilt initiated a left turn toward Landfill Lane into the path of the Sentra. As a result, the Sentra attempted to swerve to the right, but the front of the Sentra struck the front left side of the Peterbilt.

The driver of the Sentra, 20 years old John Cardona Esqueaof Georgetown, was taken to an area hospital where he died.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 30-year-old Seaford man, was not injured.

Hardscrabble Road was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
