KAS Manimaran, 65, printer, publisher and owner of the Tamil daily newspaper Dinabhoomi died in a road accident below Naalatinpudur police station limits near Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district on Monday.

Police said he was heading to Madurai in a car driven by his 40-year-old son Satish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Satish reportedly lost control of the car, veered into the center line and jumped to the other side of the road, near Naalatinpudur four-lane. The impact caused the car to crash into an oncoming truck. While Satish escaped with injuries, Manimaran died at the spot, police said.

Truck driver Ashok Kumar, 28, was admitted to the government hospital in Kovilpatti. Naalatinpudur police have registered a case. Manimaran’s body was sent to the government hospital for post-mortem.
