Jamie Foxx returns to the stage for the first time since the 2023 health crisis

Jamie Foxx made an emotional return to the stage a year after a terrible health crisis.

“God is good…As I post these pictures my heart and soul are filled with nothing but pure joy,” the 56-year-old captioned behind-the-scenes images from the filming of his upcoming stand-up special. Another chance: An evening with Jamie Foxxvia Instagram on Monday, October 14th. “On October 3rd and 5th, I had the opportunity to tell my side of the story and there was no better place than Atlanta, Georgia.”

The actor thanked his Atlanta audience, writing, “I haven’t been on stage in 18 years, but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was nothing but pure love and that was you.”

Foxx further noted that while his special is a stand-up show, it is also “an artistic explanation for something that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta, especially at Piedmont Hospital, “You made it possible for me to come back and be on stage doing what I love doing the most.”

Among the Instagram slideshow snaps, Foxx was photographed seemingly wiping away tears, hugging the audience and playing a song on a piano.

In the special, which will later stream on Netflix, Foxx will “narrate his journey through a serious health crisis full of humor, heart and inspiration,” reads a Sept. 2 post on the actor’s Instagram page. “Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and captivating performance as he discusses his struggles, triumphs and everything in between. Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection and true connection.”

Jamie revealed the special was in the works back in March, almost a year after his daughter Corinne revealed her father had suffered a “medical complication.” Jamie’s health scare occurred during the production of his and Cameron Diazis the upcoming Netflix film, Back in action. He was released from the hospital in May 2023. (Jamie shares with Corinne, 30 Connie Kline and daughter Anelise, 16, with Kristin Grannis.)

Jamie has not yet publicly revealed the exact cause of his health concerns, but revealed during his first public appearance in December 2023 that he “actually couldn’t walk” for some time after the incident.

In July, Foxx told a group of fans in Phoenix that he was “gone for 20 days” after experiencing “severe headaches” in April 2023. “I don’t remember anything,” he said in social media recordings.

“I won’t say it on camera. Yes. I won’t say it on camera. But it was…” he added before shrugging.

Jamie was back on her feet to walk Corinne down the aisle during her wedding in September Joe Hooten. “It was incredibly special considering he had health issues last year. I went downstairs [the aisle] to a string version of “Georgia on My Mind” by Ray Charles“, said Corinne fashion in an interview published on October 3rd. “My father won his Oscar for his acting [Charles in Ray] in 2005. When I was 10 years old, I was his asset and got to share this special moment with him. When we entered the hallway, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”

Jamie hosted his daughter’s big day at his home in Thousand Oaks, California. “It was never a question. We always knew we would get married in my dad’s backyard,” Corinne said of their ceremony. “He has the most beautiful property. It already looks like a wedding venue. We couldn’t imagine anything more special than a wedding at home. It just felt right.”
