“Stephen Colbert’s Late Show Plans Live Election Night Special”

An official announcement has yet to be made, but Stephen Colbert and his team will be going full throttle again in early November.

LateNighter can exclusively report this The Late Show is planning a live election night special for Tuesday, November 5th.

At press time, it was not clear where Colbert’s special for the 2024 election will air. Colbert’s previous two presidential election specials were broadcast on Showtime, and since CBS will likely be airing the election results at that hour, our funds will go to Showtime and/or Paramount+.

Colbert’s 2016 and 2020 election specials were both critically acclaimed and nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Special category (with the 2020 special winning the award).

With broadcast networks planning to cover the election results into the early hours of the morning, Colbert is expected to be the only broadcaster on the air that evening. (The Daily Showover on basic cable, is also expected to air a live election night episode.)

Colbert, more than any of his late-night colleagues, has made a habit of broadcasting his show live after major political events like “The State of The Union,” the presidential (and vice presidential) debates, and this summer’s political conventions .

He was richly rewarded for his efforts. Although he is consistently the network’s top-rated late-night show, he was recently seen broadcasting live from Chicago on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in August Late show attract more viewers than Fallon and Kimmel combined.
