Jamie Foxx shares emotional photos from first show since health crisis

Jamie Foxx is grateful to be on stage again.

The 56-year-old performed his previously announced one-man show. Another chance: An evening with Jamie FoxxEarlier this month in Atlanta, and now he reflects on the special moment he experienced over a year ago when he suffered an undisclosed life-threatening medical complication in April 2023.

“God is good,” he captioned a carousel of photos on Instagram on October 3rd. “As I post these pictures, my heart and soul are filled with nothing but pure joy… on October 3rd and 5th I had the opportunity to tell my side of the story and there was no better place than Atlanta, Georgia. “

He continued: “I have to thank you, Atlanta, for showing up and showing yourself. I haven’t been on stage in 18 years, but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was nothing but pure love, and this is it. You were.”

In the photos he posted from his performances, Jamie appeared emotional, hiding his head in his elbow, tilting his head toward the audience, hugging someone on stage and addressing the crowd.

“When people ask me if this is a stand-up comedy show, I say no, it’s an artistic explanation,” Jamie continued. “Some things went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people of Atlanta, especially at Piedmont Hospital, they made it possible for me to come back and get on stage and do what I love to do.”

Although the Oscar-winning actor hasn’t shared many details with the public about his medical emergency, he has shared some insight into the harrowing experience.

“When people ask me if this is a stand-up comedy show, I say no, it’s an artistic statement,” Jamie added. “Some things went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people of Atlanta, especially at Piedmont Hospital, they made it possible for me to come back and get on stage and do what I love to do.”

Although the Oscar-winning actor hasn’t shared many details with the public about his medical emergency, he has shared some insight into the harrowing experience.

At an event in July, Jamie shared that he got a “bad headache” while filming the Netflix film Back in action co-star Cameron Diaz in Atlanta and “asked my boy for an Advil.”

The next thing he knew, he was “gone for 20 days” and “didn’t remember anything” of that period.

Jamie continued to honor his daughter Corinne Fox and his sister Deidra Dixon for saving his life by helping him get medical attention. After receiving a cortisone shot from a first doctor, he recalled a second doctor telling him, “There’s something going on up there,” while pointing to his head.

“I won’t say it on camera,” he explained before trailing off. “But it was…”

The Django Unchained The actor expressed these sentiments in a birthday post to his sister on Instagram the following month.

“I wouldn’t be here without you,” he posted in August. “If you hadn’t made the decisions you did, I would have lost my life.”

The comedian had also previously revealed that at some point he was no longer able to walk due to his illness.

Jamie also opened up about how close he came to losing his battle with health.

“I appreciate every single minute now – it’s different,” he said. “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s hard when it’s almost over. If you see the tunnel, I saw the tunnel – I didn’t see the light.”
