Teenage suspect charged in shooting near Ooltewah High School football game Friday

A football game at Ooltewah High School was interrupted Friday evening when shots were fired near the tennis courts. According to the authorities, charges must now be brought against a 19-year-old.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) officers arrived on the scene at approximately 9:40 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired during a game between two visiting teams. (The Ooltewah High School team was not involved in the game).

According to HCSO, the suspect, later identified as Conner Shannon, told officers he fired a shot in the air to break up an argument between his cousins.

According to the HCSO release, officers found two firearms in Shannon’s vehicle, including a rifle with a spent cartridge case lodged in the chamber.

Shannon was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail. He is charged with intentional endangerment and carrying weapons on school property.

According to HCSO, two people were injured in the incident and were treated at the scene by Hamilton County EMS. Both were cured without further medical treatment.

Video evidence obtained by officers appeared to show that additional suspects were involved in the attack, and HCSO says officers are continuing to work this case.
