Too fast for the conditions

Newtown Police Report: Diego Kelly, 18, of Easton, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, was traveling on Hanover Road on September 26 at 10:39 p.m. Kelly attempted to turn right out of Hanover just before it turns into the boulevard and crashed into the guardrail.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Kelly was given a misdemeanor for driving too fast for the conditions.

Mirrors collided

Newtown Police Report David VanSteenburgh, 39, of Fairfield, driving a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling west on Osborne Hill Road on September 27 at 2:11 p.m. Najee Schoon, 36, of Waterbury, driving a 2017 Ford E350, continued eastbound on Osborne Hill Road. As the two vehicles passed each other, the mirrors on the driver’s side of both vehicles touched.

One passenger suffered a minor cut from glass but refused boarding. None of the vehicles were towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Follow Too Close

Newtown Police Report: Evan Martell, 35, of Oxford, was driving a 2018 Ford F150 on Church Hill Road on September 27 at 2:50 p.m. He was driving behind a 2018 BMW 530 driven by Paul Tiesler, 34, of Newtown. Tiesler stopped at the intersection of Main Street and Martell failed to stop in time, causing Tiesler’s vehicle to rear-end.

No injuries were reported.

Martell was given a verbal warning for getting too close.

Motor vehicle theft charge

Newtown Police Report Cassidy Javornisky, 24, of Wallingford, turned himself in to Newtown Police at police headquarters for an incident that occurred that morning on September 28th on Alpine Drive.

Javornisky was charged with first-degree motor vehicle theft, fifth-degree telephone fraud, criminal impersonation and disorderly conduct.

Javornisky was released on $20,000 bail with a court date of Oct. 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Uncertain support

Newtown Police Report: Gerardo Rosario-Linares, 46, of Ansonia, driving an Amazon delivery vehicle, was backing east on Edgelake Drive on September 29 at 7:11 p.m. A 1999 Audi A4 owned by Steven Mayor of Sandy Hook was legally parked on the western shoulder of Edgelake Drive. Rosario-Linares backed into the mayor’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Rosario-Linares received a verbal warning for unsafe support.

Backed into the vehicle

Newtown Police Report Jose Fiho, 59, of Danbury, driving a 2018 Ford Transit, was backing into the parking lot of the Mitchells Gas Station on Oct. 2 at 1:57 p.m. An unoccupied 2024 Subaru Outback owned by Mark Gillialand of New Milford was parked in a marked parking space. A trailer towed by Fiho came into contact with Gilliland’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Because the incident occurred on private property, no enforcement action was taken.

Back at Mt. Pleasant

Newtown Police Report Jaime Portelafernandes-Silva, 26, of Bethel, driving a 2015 Honda Civic, was traveling east on Mt Pleasant Road at 5:56 p.m. on Oct. 2. He was driving behind a 2009 Subaru Legacy operated by Victoria Foote, 28, Kingston, NH Foote stopped to turn left into a driveway and Portelafernandes-Silva struck her vehicle from behind.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Portelafernandes-Silva was given a violation for following too closely.

Hit by the deer

Newtown Police Report: Jarred Yilanes, 35, of Newtown, driving a 2023 Mazda CX-30, was traveling east on Sugar Street at 9:42 p.m. Oct. 3. Vehicle.

Yilanes remained uninjured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Hit the rock wall

Newtown Police Report: Jack Fico, 25, of Bridgewater, driving a 2019 VW GTI, was traveling on Jordan Hill Road at 6:57 a.m. Oct. 6. After passing through the intersection of Berkshire Road and Jordan Hill Road, Fico’s vehicle crashed into a rock wall.

No injuries were reported. Fico’s vehicle was towed.

No enforcement actions were mentioned in the report.

Collision in parking lot

Newtown police report that Rachel Felton, 40, of Bristol, driving a 2021 Kia Rio, backed out of a parking space in the 110 Church Hill Road parking lot on October 6 at 2:55 p.m. Jerry Rivera-Vasquez, 33, of Newtown, was driving a 2024 Nissan Versa southbound in the same parking lot. The rear of Felton’s vehicle collided with the right side of Rivera-Vasquez’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Because the incident occurred on private property, no enforcement action was taken.

Two injured in collision

Newtown Police Report Yongquan Dong, 61, of Sandy Hook, driving a 2015 Honda Pilot, was traveling on Plumtrees Road on Oct. 6 at 7:06 p.m. Lisa Pak, 63, of Newtown, driving a 2015 Audi Q5, was traveling east on Taunton Hill Road. Pak approached the intersection with Plumtrees Road, stopped and continued into the intersection. Dong failed to stop at the intersection and drove in front of Pak’s vehicle, causing Pak’s vehicle to collide with his vehicle.

Both Dong and a passenger were evaluated at the scene by Newtown EMS and then transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.

Dong was issued a misdemeanor for failing to obey a stop sign. Pak received a misdemeanor citation for operating under suspension.

Hit from behind at the red light

Newtown Police report that Susan Selk, 63, of Danbury, was driving a 2015 Jeep Compass northbound on Dodgingtown Road. She was traveling behind a 2015 Subaru Outback operated by Edward Kasinskas, 67, of Bethel. Kasinskas stopped at a red light in the northbound lane. Selk didn’t stop in time and rear-ended Kasinskas’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Selk was given a misdemeanor for getting too close.

Railway overpass damaged

Newtown Police report that Keitumetse Mokgosi, 29, of Waterbury, driving a 2022 International Mv607 tractor-trailer, was traveling east on Botsford Hill Road at 6:41 p.m. on Oct. 7. Their vehicle crashed into the railway bridge overpass.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Mokgosi received a verbal warning for disobeying a traffic sign.

Hit the light pole

Newtown Police Report Sean McGuire, 56, of Bethel, driving a 2009 Chevrolet Express, was leaving the parking lot at 14 Church Hill Road at 8:14 a.m. Oct. 8. While driving, McGuire’s vehicle came into contact with a light support rod. McGuire said he didn’t see the mast because of the sun’s glare.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Because the incident occurred on private property, no enforcement action was taken.

Arrested with a warrant

Newtown police report that 32-year-old Angelo Aguiar of Trumbull turned himself in to the Bridgeport Adult Probation Department on Oct. 8 on a warrant for failure to appear. He was arrested and taken to the Newtown Police Department. He was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court with a court date of Oct. 22.

CT State Police (CSP), Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel all responded to I-84 East around 7:30 a.m. Monday, October 7th at Exit 11 after reports of a vehicle rolling into the woods with the driver trapped in the vehicle. According to the CSP report, Gerald K. Nakashian, 69, of Wayne, New Jersey, was driving a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck eastbound in the slow lane when he lost control of the truck in rainy conditions. Nakashian turned right before rolling over the right shoulder and down a slight embankment. He was checked for injuries but did not go to the hospital.
