Arsenal face another injury threat as Gabriel Martinelli undergoes an MRI scan while on duty in Brazil

Arsenal are facing another injury disaster after Gabriel Martinelli was sent for an MRI scan while on international duty.

The striker is currently with the Brazilian national team and complained of pain in his right calf.

The national team’s medical team therefore sent him for a scan and will continue to monitor the problem in the coming days.

Martinelli came on as a substitute in Brazil’s World Cup qualifying win over Chile on Friday – a game Brazil won 2-1.

However, he will now miss Brazil’s next qualifying game against Peru early on Wednesday morning.

The news will be a major concern for Arsenal as they prepare to return to the Premier League.

The Gunners are already sweating over Bukayo Saka’s fitness after he limped off in England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece.

The 23-year-old appeared to be clutching his right hamstring as he left the pitch with two England medical staff by his side.

When asked about Saka’s injury after the game, Lee Carsley said: “He’s being examined. Obviously you could see in the lead-up to the first goal that he felt something in his leg.”

It is the second international break in which a key Arsenal star has suffered an injury.

Gunners captain Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with Norway, forcing him to miss Arsenal’s last seven games.

However, the Norwegian was recently filmed running on a treadmill, giving fans hope that his return is imminent.
