Panathinaikos is “considering a first-class decision” following the tragic death of the defender

Panathinaikos are reportedly ready to pay George Baldock’s salary in full following the right-back’s tragic death last week.

The 31-year-old drowned while swimming in his pool in Greece since joining his family to pay tribute to the former Sheffield United and MK Dons star.

Baldock joined Panathinaikos in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane.

He played four times for the Greek team, three of them in the Greek Super League.

According to Daily Mail, after his death, Panathinaikos could decide to fully honor the football star’s contract.

Insiders have stressed that the club has “strong values” and a “compassionate owner”.

They have vowed to look after Baldock’s fiancée, Annabel Dignam, and the couple’s one-year-old son, Brody.

This means the former footballer’s salary could go to his family. Panathinaikos is also considering hosting a “charity match” sometime in 2025.

Baldock’s family released a statement last week paying tribute to the 31-year-old.

They said it was “impossible” not to love the right-back and also asked for privacy as they continue to process their grief.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden death of our beloved George,” they said in a statement.

“We can confirm that a post-mortem examination has revealed that George tragically drowned while swimming in the pool at his home in Glyfada, Athens.
