“Right calf edema”: Arsenal are again suffering from serious injury fears ahead of the game against Bournemouth

“Right calf edema”: Arsenal are again suffering from serious injury fears ahead of the game against Bournemouth

Brazil will play their next World Cup qualifier away against Peru on Tuesday evening (local time).

TBR Sports BR initially revealed that Martinelli was accompanied by the national team doctor at the hotel after noticing discomfort in his tendon during training.

It has since been confirmed that the winger has “edema in his right calf”. He is unlikely to feature against Peru tonight as he was hampered by caution tape in the penalty area during training.

The Gunners are already without Martin Odegaard with an ankle problem. Bukayo Saka suffered a hamstring injury last week but could be fit for the game against Bournemouth.

Martinelli’s absence would be a huge blow to the Gunners. Hopefully the club management will stay in touch with the Brazilian coaching staff to ensure he doesn’t take any risks against Peru.

The 23-year-old had an average 2023-24 season by his lofty standards, but his fortunes have changed recently. Before the break he recorded four goals in three league games.

He has started to repeat his performances from the 2022/23 season and Arsenal cannot afford to lose him for a few games. We would prefer if he didn’t play tonight.

Arsenal travel to Bournemouth for their next league game on Saturday evening. Raheem Sterling is currently the immediate replacement option if Martinelli is deemed unfit to start.
