Witness recalls fatal car crash in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD. CALIFORNIA (KERO) – Bakersfield police are investigating a fatal car crash Oct. 13 at Niles Street and Kern Street that killed two people and injured a 2-year-old.

Bakersfield police are investigating a fatal car crash that left two people dead and a 2-year-old hospitalized. The accident occurred on the morning of October 13th at Niles Street and Kern Street.
“For the loud bang to be heard, I’m pretty sure you could hear it 23 houses away,” says Tommy Mosqueda.

23ABC has confirmed with Bakersfield police that a two-year-old is in critical condition at a local hospital after the car he was riding in Sunday morning failed to stop at a stop sign. Police cruiser colliding westbound on Niles Street.

The car was traveling north on Kern Street before crashing. There were three people inside. We’re told the driver died at the scene and a female passenger died in the hospital. When I was at the scene of the accident, I spoke with Tommy Mosqueda, who said he witnessed the accident.

“We ran out and saw a police vehicle destroyed and another vehicle destroyed,” Mosqueda continued.

Tommy says he and his roommates helped get the officers out of their vehicles. 23ABC is still waiting to confirm these details from Bakersfield police. However, we’re told the officers only suffered minor injuries.
