LANSING – Police are investigating gunshots and damage to a window at the University of Michigan Health Sparrow Hospital early Sunday morning.

No one reported injuries, Sgt. Anthony VandeVoorde of the Lansing Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Michigan Avenue around 3:16 a.m. regarding the reported shots fired, VandeVoorde said.

Upon arrival, they discovered an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck multiple times by bullets. VandeVoorde said he did not know where the vehicle was parked.

They also learned about the damaged hospital window, VandeVoorde said.

UM Health-Sparrow issued a news release saying the hospital’s public safety team is working with law enforcement officials.

“The incident has nothing to do with the hospital,” hospital officials said. “UM Health-Sparrow’s Department of Public Safety responded quickly and determined that the hospital was not the intended target and there is no ongoing threat.”

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lansing Police Department at 517-483-4600.
