FIRST LOOK TRAILER FOR UPCOMING CHANNEL 4 DRAMA

Produced by The Forge, the 6-part series (Help, National Treasure, Kiri) is a coming-of-age parable for our very strange times – cut with a generous helping of offbeat gore.

It’s set in the fictional town of Dambury, a place with great opportunities and not much to do. Gray, inconspicuous, forgotten. It’s the last place you’d expect the apocalypse to begin…

But when an army convoy overturns in front of a nursing home, a chemical leak begins that has a negative impact on the residents there. The OAPs, led by Cecily and Frank, played by Sue Johnston (The Royle Family) and Paul Benthall (The World’s End), escape the army’s grasp and attempt to contain their raging, violent and insatiable hunger for raw meat.

On the night of the outbreak, teenagers Charlie, Kelly, Steff and Finn, played by Jay Lycurgo (The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself), Buket Komur (Our House), Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy) and Viola Prettejohn (The Nevers Run). a normal teenage life: tinny, chaotic feelings, complex relationships and ignoring her high school diploma preparation.

But the gang suddenly find themselves at the center of the virus when Kelly’s grandma Janine, played by Anita Dobson (EastEnders), becomes infected and attacks them.

Just because it’s the end of the world doesn’t mean your personal life and relationship problems come to a standstill as the gang encounters the zombie horde, fights with their parents, friendship betrayals and old family secrets come to light.

And the zombies’ lives are just as complicated, as the virus fuels single-minded desires and adds a whole new dimension to their zombie rampage. Meanwhile, Finn worries about the grandpa character Morgan, played by Robert Lindsay (“My Family”), when she realizes there may be more to the chemical disaster. What exactly was transported?

“Generation Z” is about intergenerational justice and community breakdown. The film boldly lampoons a world where truth is stranger than fiction, examining not only the political fault lines in our society, but also the very real issues facing teenagers today.

The core cast of the 6×60′ series includes Ava Hinds-Jones in her first TV role, along with comedian Johnny Vegas (Benidorm), Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey), Suzanne Ahmet (Inside Man) and T’Nia Miller ( Years and Years), Sophie Stone (The Chelsea Detective), Chris Reilly (The Last Post), D’Angelou Osei Kissiedu (Rocks), Ellie-Mae Siame (His Dark Materials).

Plus Robin Hill (Kill List), Gareth Tunley (Kill List), John Hollingworth (The Queen’s Gambit), Maanuv Thiara (DI Ray), Rebecca Humphries (The Crown), Ellora Torchia (The Gold), Andrew Kazamia (London’s Burning), Garrick Hagon (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) and Mark Monero (EastEnders).

Ben Wheatley said: “It was great working with The Forge and Channel 4 on Generation Z. It’s my first original series and a project that’s very close to my heart. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do.”

Rebecca Holdsworth, Editor-in-Chief at Channel 4, said: “We’re delighted that Ben Wheatley has chosen C4 as the location for his first original TV drama. Generation Z promises to have all the unique visual flair and mischievous spirit that characterize Ben’s film work; Again, it’s incredibly funny, cleverly political and delivers the kind of jaw-dropping shocks and thrills that make this a zombie drama like no other.”

Generation Z is produced by The Forge for Channel 4 in collaboration with ZDF and All3media International.
