Mother and child watching Fleet Week injured in fall of Marine parachutist

A U.S. Navy parachutist landed on a mother and child during a Fleet Week aerial demonstration in San Francisco on Sunday, leaving the two spectators in the hospital with minor injuries.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. when one of several members of the U.S. Navy’s Leap Frogs skydiving team attempted to land at Marina Green.

A skydiver crashed just beyond a cordoned-off landing pad, striking a woman and her teenage daughter who were watching the event, Lt. Mariano Elias of the San Francisco Fire Department told The Standard.

The mother and son were quickly evaluated by firefighters stationed at the scene and then transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response paramedic crew, officials said.
