Senior assistant at an Ipoh primary school nabbed for sexually harassing a 12-year-old

IPOH: A 37-year-old senior assistant at a primary school has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old student.

Perak police chief Datuk Comm Azizi Mat Aris said the suspect was remanded in custody for six days until October 17.

The victim’s 47-year-old mother filed a complaint on October 11 at around 3 p.m.

The suspect was arrested on the same day the report was filed, Comm Azizi announced today (October 14) during a press conference at the State Police Headquarters.

Comm Azizi noted that initial investigations indicate that the teacher has been at the school for eight months and that the acts against the victim may have occurred several times.

Authorities are also investigating whether other victims are involved.

He mentioned that the suspect was unmarried and had no criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017.

On Sunday (October 13), Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh stressed the importance of protecting the victim and urged the public to respect their privacy.

He noted that after receiving the report, the Ministry of Education took swift action to expel the person from campus, according to a Facebook post on Sunday (October 13).
