What’s on the Ames ballot? –Iowa State Daily

For most Iowa State students, the 2024 election is their first choice. With Election Day still 22 days away, early voting for Iowans begins Wednesday.

The ballot paper for the 2024 general election Story County includes candidates for federal, state and local offices, as well as several public policies and judicial retention votes. Here’s a breakdown of what’s on the ballot for Ames:

  • Donald Trump and JD Vance (r.)
  • Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat (libertarian)
  • Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia (Party for Socialism and Liberation)
  • William P. Stodden and Stephanie H. Cholensky (Socialist Party USA)
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan (We The People)
  • Shiva Ayyadurai and Crystal Ellis (Independent)

US Representative District 4:

The candidate for the Story County Board of Supervisors, which oversees local government functions for Story County such as: B. Budgeting, land use and public service candidates is Latifah Faisal (D).

The candidate for Story County Auditor is Lucy Martin (D), who is responsible for managing local elections, public records and budgeting.

The candidate for Story County sheriff is Paul H. Fitzgerald (D). The sheriff is Story County’s chief law enforcement officer, responsible for public safety and running the county jail.

Voters may select up to three candidates for the position of Story County Public Hospital Board of Trustees:

Court vote

Voters will be asked if they want to keep several judges in office, including members of the Iowa Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and District 2B.

Public measures

Voters can answer “yes” or “no” to the following:

Question 1: Should the state constitution limit voting rights to U.S. citizens age 18 and older?

Question 2: Should the lieutenant governor step in in the event of “the resignation, death or permanent disability of the governor or governor-elect”?

Public Action A: Should Story County issue up to $25 million in bonds to improve water quality, parks and conservation projects?
