The second season premiere of “Tracker” reveals another tragic secret from Colter’s past

After a long summer break, CBS’ biggest breakout series of last year has finally returned with its second season. tracker debuted its second season on Sunday night, moved to an earlier date and (hopefully) gained more live viewers from the change. Throughout the first season (as well as the Jeffery Deaver book series on which the show is based), the only ongoing mystery revolved around the death of Colter’s father. This is still not resolved trackerThe series revealed a second ongoing mystery for Colter, this time involving a previous case and a love interest.

The tracker The season two premiere begins with Colter breaking into the home of a man named Frank, looking for a clue before the man gets home. When Frank arrives, it is clear that he and Colter have a shared history. Colter questions him about a girl named Gina Pickett who disappeared 10 years ago to the day. Colter is confident that Frank has something to do with the disappearance, even though there is no concrete evidence of this and he visits the man on the same day every year to try to get something out of him.

So there’s a case involving Colter that was never solved and that obviously haunts him. He has been trying to close the book on Gina’s disappearance for ten years, but to no avail. At the end of the episode, we learn a little more about why Colter is so obsessed with finding out the truth about this particular disappearance.

Colter visits a woman who turns out to be Gina’s older sister. He promised her he wouldn’t stop until he found out what happened to Gina, so he’s staying on the hunt. The two also have something of a romantic connection. In order to “feel something other than the sadness that surrounds her sister on the anniversary of her disappearance, the woman takes Colter to bed with her, and it appears to be not the first time they have been physical with each other. But it is also very clear that this is not just any kind of committed relationship.

This raises a mystery that will likely continue to unfold throughout the season, as we’ve gotten some hints that Frank might be hiding something. In addition to Colter’s gut feeling about the guy, Frank also had a mysterious bag of dirt in his otherwise empty freezer. According to Frank, it’s because he does the work on the ground in his backyard, but Colter clearly doesn’t think so.

Most of them tracker Season 2 will follow the procedural format where each episode brings Colter a new case from somewhere in the country. But this Gina Pickett story will probably come up a few times throughout the season, given the breadcrumbs left behind in this premiere.

After the end of tracker Season one star and executive producer Justin Hartley hinted at a “larger mystery” that would unfold over the course of season two. It’s too early to say, but this Gina Pickett case seems to be just the ticket.

“When you have a show like this and you end it so well and tie all of these stories together in a nice little arc, that’s cool and great,” Hartley told Deadline. “But we have to do a very different season that we have to do better than Season 1. While we wanted to wrap up all the storylines, we also wanted those arcs to lead to other questions – bigger, deeper questions – about his past. I think we’ve done that by answering some of these questions that we’ve been asking ourselves all year. I think we did a good job of making sure that the answers to those questions then lead to a larger mystery, something that we can unveil in Season 2.”
