SACRAMENTO — A man is dead and a suspected drunken driving driver is behind bars after a hit-and-run accident late Saturday evening in Sacramento, police said.

Around 11:30 a.m., officers responded to Marysville Boulevard and Main Street for a report that a man on a bicycle had been struck by a vehicle.

But when they arrived, the suspected driver had already disappeared, police said. The suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Vicente Perez of West Sacramento, was found a short distance away, police said.

Officers arrested Perez and said he was showing signs of being drunk. Perez was subsequently arrested and booked into jail on two felony charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, jail records show.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was not identified.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the police.
